Haringey Hunger March
This was the first march I've ever attended attended, already presenting me with a unique challenge. My main goals beforehand was to prioritize managing my environment and positioning myself to take advantage of the good lighting in order to make visually compelling photographs. Of the Marches/rallies I've currently attended, this was the smallest so far. Its main theme orientated around the right to food and how hunger is a political choice. Throughout this shoot I gained more and more confidence in composing my images correctly, exploring a multitude of different angles and subject matter while doing so. Alongside me was a film camera provided to me by my school which I switched to during the formation of the rally, gaining me further experience especially due to the fluctuating lighting conditions caused by high sun and shadows cast by trees and buildings. Overall, I really enjoyed this shoot as it allowed me to cretae stunning imagery that made excellent use of the lighting conditions presented, and also allowed me to begin to gain experience when navigating crowded and busy areas, using this to my advantage to add depth to my photographs. Westminster 'March for Clean Water'
This was the second March I've ever attended, and presented a completely different challenge to the first. First of all, this march was multitudes larger than the first, which consisted of around 50 people, whereas this march had approximately 15,000 people attending from across the UK according to British Rowing News. This meant traversing the crowds became much harder and planning ahead of time was also difficult, although I feel as though I handled the extra pressure and planning fairly well. Another challenge I faced was the darker lighting conditions due to it being overcast. This resulted in it being much harder for my photographs to be visually appealing as I couldn't use lighting to the same extent as I could in previous shoots. However, I really enjoyed this shoot as it again built upon my ability to survey areas to create different composition, such as leverage, and also to manage larger and more complex crowds.
Central London 'March for Global Climate Justice'
This was the third March I've ever attended, and it covered a multitude of issues all linking with Global Climate Justice. For example, on the Climate Justice Coalition website, they state that 'The climate crisis and genocide in Gaza are inextricably linked and we must put an end to both. Without human rights, there can be no climate justice.'. I enjoyed this shoot as this rally was larger than the first that I attended, but still much smaller than the March for Clean Water that I attended, meaning the crowds and locations were more manageable. The lighting in this shoot was also better than the second march I attended, but again not better than the first. I feel as though this shoot showed a stark improvement in composition, capturing multiple in-action shots.
